Dear AITP Region 18 Member,
Welcome to the this month’s edition of the AITP Region 18 CommuniGram. We will keep you informed on a regular basis of current news and upcoming events around the region. Be a contributor for your chapter. To submit a short article, send it via email to Harvey Schoenman at email@example.com.
It may be summer when many of our chapters take a break from having regular meetings but there is no rest for the weary staff at CommuniGram HQ. The CommuniGram archives have arrived!! Check out our newest feature by clicking on the C-gram Archives button below.
I hope that everyone is enjoying the aitpNetwork. It’s a great way for members to share information with other members other than through email. Join a group (did you know there is a group for Region 18?), start a blog, share photos and videos, add AITP friends, post events, participate in Virtual Water Cooler discussions communicate, network, and more. You can even win $1000 in a new AITP logo design contest. The Network is open to all AITP members — professional, interim and student. There are now over 600 members on the Network.
I hope everyone is staying cool as we enter the hot months of summer. This is also a great time to have meetings that include families, like a cookouts, park outings or weekend outdoor events. Whatever you do this summer, enjoy, and thanks for your continued support of AITP and Region 18.
You asked for back issues of the CommuniGram; we listened; you got them. Check out our newest feature — the archives page.
Onward to Pittsburgh in November for the Fall Leadership Retreat (see below).
President, AITP Region 18
The $114 discount period for the Fall Leadership Retreat will close on July 15th. Please be sure to register by July 15th before the prices go up to the next level. If you know you are coming but do not yet have the funding, please let me know and we can work something out. The Leadership Retreat is on Nov 7-8 in the Pittsburgh area right across the road from a brand new outlet mall opening this coming Labor Day. Details now available on the 2008 Leadership Retreat website, http://www.aitp-pgh.org/R18-2008LR.htm.

On June 12th, the Pittsburgh and Greater Wheeling Chapters held a joint meeting. It was a very successful event with 31 people attending. Pittsburgh got the venue and the caterer and Wheeling got the speaker. Everyone used the registration process from the Pittsburgh website so that we’d have a single point of registration. We also had raffle prizes from each chapter and a 50-50 raffle.
John Sterrett, a Web Engineering Specialist with the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, spoke on SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) which he is using to create packages for his employer. John is from the Greater Wheeling Chapter
We held the event approximately midway between the chapters in the Comfort Inn motel near the Meadowlands Casino & Racetrack. A few of us went to the casino after the meeting and Phil Svesnik of the Pittsburgh Chapter showed us how to win at the slots.
Here are a small sampling of the pictures from the event. To see all 22 pictures, including captions, go to http://picasaweb.google.com/aitp.pgh/AITPJtMtg?authkey=yn73nv2snng. Thanks to John Parkinson for taking the pix.
I would encourage any chapter with a neighboring chapter close enough so that people from either chapter would not have to drive much more than 45-60 minutes to give this a try. I know that we’ll do it again.
