IT Staffing Shortage: The IT Professional / Educator Response
On Thursday, February 9, 2017, the RTP Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) feature a topic that discusses how IT professionals and educational institutions can join together to reduce the shortages of IT personnel in our nation, state, and in the RTP area.
It’s been said that a lack of focus on or interest in STEM in our elementary education programs as well as geek stereotypes and misinformation on IT career viability all contribute to a lack of interest in IT related degrees and an under supply of IT staff matriculating from degree programs. Whatever the causes, it’s apparent that insufficient students are selecting IT careers and this starts early in the education process. Come hear from education’s professionals discuss what IT professionals can do to change this.
